The Plain Text Version of an HTML Email Design (new Email Composer)

  • Updated

Most people receive and view their email messages in an HTML format, however, there are still email clients and mail servers configured to accept only plain text content.

When a message is sent from Act-On, two versions are sent within the same message: an HTML version and a plain text version. The recipient's email client will render either the HTML or plain text versions based on their preferences.

For information about creating Plain Text Only emails with no HTML version, see the Plain Text Only Email Guide.

To view & edit the plain text version of an HTML email:

  1. Open the email or email template you want in the new Email Composer (see Email Composer User Guide).
  2. At the top right, click Preview or Preview template.
  3. At the bottom left, toggle on Plain text:

  1. To edit the plain text version, click Edit plain text. There are options for personalization and opt-out links.

Saving your manual edits will prevent Act-On from automatically keeping this email's plain text version up-to-date and in sync with your HTML version.

To revert back, when editing, click Regenerate from HTML:
