Anchors are frequently used in messages containing a significant amount of content and are convenient because they send recipients directly to specific sections within the content and reduces the amount of scrolling that a recipient would need to do.
Long-format content, like newsletters, can benefit from using lists of links to different sections by making it easier and quicker for recipients to pinpoint content that captures their attention. You can also add convenient links that go to anchors on your Act-On Landing Pages as well.
Note: Anchor links are not supported by all browsers and devices - mobile apps, in particular, tend not to support them. Make sure to test your email in whatever browser(s) most of your contacts will be using.
Instructions
Step 1: Add an Anchor
- Open your email message
- Hover over the Rich Text Block icon, and click the Pencil icon to open the rich text editor
- Highlight the title or first word of the section where you want your anchor to be, then click the Anchor icon
- Provide a name for the anchor (e.g., 'myanchor1') that is:
- Simple
- Unique
- Uses letters and numbers only (no spaces or special characters)
- Click Save.
- An anchor icon should now be visible in the rich text editor.
Step 2: Link to an Anchor
Method 1: Link to an Anchor on the same Email or Landing Page
- Highlight the text to link to your anchor and click the Link icon to insert and edit your URL
- Click the Anchors dropdown menu, and select the name of the anchor you placed earlier
- Click Save
Method 2: Link to an Anchor on a different Landing Page
Note: This step cannot be done within emails, as you cannot link to an email message inside an inbox. However, you can link to a Landing Page anchor from within an Email Message.
- Go to Content > Landing Pages, find your listing, and click Get Public URLs from the dropdown menu
- Copy the public URL for your Landing Page
- Open a second Landing Page (or Email Message)
- Highlight the text to link to your anchor, and click the Anchor icon to insert and edit your URL
- Add the Public URL, a hashtag (#) symbol, and the ID of the content block with no spaces, like in this example:
- Click Save
