creating segments based on API

Gina Azzarello
Our master list is updated various ways - by manually uploaded lists and an API connection to an ESB.

I want to be able to capture/create a segment with only those who are entered NEW into the list by the API, not from manual uploads. As the API is running all the time, and lists are uploaded often, I can't set a record time creation rule, and because the fields that are updated by API are also updated by other rules, I can't just create a segment based on the updating or changing of a field.

Is there any way to set up a segment or program that will capture what I am looking for?

It would need to be new records only from the source API and who have a specific field updated.

The API also updates current records. Any ideas?

Create a column labeled 'API update' and program your API to populate this field with today's date.

This will allow to identify new records or relative date segments.

HI Phil, unfortunately this requires development from a different team (IT). I work for a public utility and it took a year for us to get the API implemented as-is, so in order to do that - it may take a lot of time. I wanted to add things during the API implementation and was not able to. I can work with the team and get it on the radar- but is there any other way besides your suggestion?

Not natively in Act-On.  However, if you invert the process you could achieve this today.

Add a field to the lists you manually upload.  E.g. Field = 'Manual Upload' value = 'true'
