Best Video platform for gating video

Paul McDevitt

I get why Act-On does not store or manage video but this also poses a challenge if I want to gate video content for any reason. We use Goto Webinar for live webinars because it will let us manage the audience better. (If you want to understand that better, feel free to reach out and I can explain in more detail.)

What I can't easily do though is set up a single registration. Ideally i want to use Act-On to manage every aspect of the invite, registration, reminder and thank-you-for-attending/sorry-we-missed-you emails. Which it does well. Goto Webinar wants the registrations to happen in their tool, so I have competing registration, especially challenging if I want to do on-demand later.

So I started looking at video storage. I can't easily gate video content on Youtube. Vidyard is just hugely expensive for the amount I do so didn't even get into whether can be gated. Vimeo looks reasonable from a pricing perspective but not sure if I can easily gate. Is it, for example, always visible or searchable. And Wistia appears to be a more expensive version of Vimeo.

So looking for experiences from any other marketers out there on any best practices they may have come across to manage video best.

I know I can probably stick the video on an Act-On landing page and gate that way. Just not sure that is exactly what I want to do. Ideally like it somehow to be more visible on my website.

Clearly video is having a greater impact these days, both short ungated as well as gated and would like to start off right.

Cheers

Paul

@Paul McDevitt A much more affordable video gating platform is Convert Player Convert Player - Make Your Videos Work Harder

You can use this to gate videos you have on both Youtube and Vimeo. It doesn't host the video, just provides an alternative gating option.

It doesn't have a native integration with Act-on, but there is for Zapier, so just use that to get your leads.

    Hi @Paul McDevitt

YouTube is a way that some of my customers host their video due to it being free and the control you have over who can see it (i.e. making the videos public if you wanted to or simply restricting it to those with the URL).

Once they have uploaded the video to YouTube and decided on whether they want it public or private they follow these steps:-

Take the embed code (so the same one you use to show the video in our landing page composer) and place this as a media library asset
Gate this asset with the form you'd like to use
Embed the Gated URL into the section of their website you would like to host/show the video on.

I've recreated an example of this for you on a test site I use for recreating/testing situations for customers and you can see an example of this here. Apologies for the lack of surrounding text, etc.. but hopefully you'll get the idea.

To save you looking at the source code all I've done is use this:-

    <iframe src='http://scottwallace.actonsoftware.com/acton/formfd/16999/0022:d-0002' width='600' height='300' scrolling='no' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen></iframe>

Of course, depending on your CMS platform, you'll be able to tweak the code according but this was a quick way for me to get it on the site for you to see an example of it working.

Others might have their own thoughts/approaches but I thought I'd let you know what some of my customers have done.

    Hi Scott and Darren,

I thought I had loaded a Thank You here but clearly didn't do it right.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your ideas and input.
