I’ll be curious the opinion on using images for top of funnel emails. Particularly in B2B context?
This is an excellent question to ask other Act-On Users, I would encourage you to create a post in our Marketing Best Practices area of Community.
We as a company (B2B) do use images/banners in the TOP emails to brand our communication.~
Will there be more templates added to the catalog in the future? Or is there an area on Act-On's website where there are more templates to choose from? The selection is quite limited.
Yes, I believe its in the pipeline to add more emails to our Catalog, having said that we also have a Designer in our Professional Services team who can help with building bespoke content in Act-On. Do let me know if you would like to engage.
How many conditions can we add in the section "Dynamic content"?
I have not counted but you can have as many as you like as far I know :)
Can we get a Power Up for data studio possibly?
We are looking at creating an Advance Course for Data Studio (watch this space), unfortunately there are no plans right now to have a Power Up session for this feature.
How do you add more fonts to Act-On?
If we are talking in the context of Email most typical way of adding custom fonts would be via Custom Stationary. Here is a link to an article that could help you further with Creating and uploading your own stationary.
What's the best way to set up an A/B test for emails? I know there's an "A/B Test Content" subsection in the Content section but I never use it?
There are two features for A/B Testing, the actual A/B Testing of Emails and A/B testing of Content. If we are talking about A/B Testing of Emails, typically you would be testing Subject lines, with A/B testing of Content you might be looking at conversion/engagement of 2 landing pages with perhaps different call to actions.
I guess the main difference that with A/B Testing of Emails you select distribution list and send email that way (as one off actions), with A/B Testing of Content you need healthy flow of traffic to these pages to get a meaningful result.
Can you upload video files into an email?
Unfortunately, this is not possible, we also need to remember that clients like Outlook would reject that type of files and probably would not play videos even if embedded with custom code.
For the training videos, would be good if we can control the speed?
Unfortunately, this is a limitation of the platform we are using, having said that we have put a feature request to our provider.
I’m having issues in positioning the form link content block in the middle on mobile devices. This is important when I’m creating webinars. How do I do that?
Would you be able to contact our support please so we can investigate this issue in more details? I would not be able to advise without seeing the actual template/email.
A lot of the times an error message appears prompting me to close the email composer stating that the email is open in another window/by another user. It’s a recurring bug. Is this happening to anyone else?
I believe this is a normal behavior when Email is being edited potentially by 2 people at the same time.
Once I create a 2 or 3 column section, how do I change the widths of those columns?
You just need to hover, find the edge of the column and move it to the width you need.
Can we edit the default Google Analytics terms?
Even if I enable “Responsive Design”, and have the message width set to a certain pixel size, if an image inserted as a content block is any wider than that, it will not resize. Is it normal?
This is not a normal behavior, so I would recommend submitting a ticket to investigate this specific issue in more details.
Why would I align the message to the left or right vs. center?
If you are creating Email Template for bottom of the funnel for example so emails come from your Account/Sales Manager or communicating to existing customers/partners you might want to create a ‘simpler’ looking email that personalised to come from your Sales, without images/header.
Are headers and footers also able to be saved in stationary?
Yes, you can create a custom stationary to include these elements, you just need to remember to supress them in the Email Composer at the time of creation. Also remember to use Act-On opt-out link, you can see the actual link in the Default Email Composer Footer, it should contain zout code.
When sending automated event confirmation emails, how would I add the "Add to Calendar" button? I don't see an option under Content
Check the Time and Place block under Content, you just need to add all the details and it would create a Calendar entry, once recipients receive that email they can click on the block and event would be added to their calendar.
In the guide you went through earlier, I do not see the "Insert Personalization Field" as you show.
You need to click on red f icon to get to personalisation.
Is it possible to save your own palette of colors so that they’re accessible when you want to add color to your emails?
Sorry this is not possible right now but this would make an awesome feature enhancement post for our Product Idea Board.
I often times get this problem where the font does not change even after I have highlighted the copy and changed the font size and color or even font style many times. What can I do to avoid that?
Couple of things you can do, potentially check html to see if your font style, size and color are showing up there. Also copying text from Word Doc directly into Rich Text block will occasionally add extra code so double checking and tiding up helps. Another option would be to engage with our support to troubleshoot that specific Email Template, it might be something in the actual Template that creates that issue.
Sometimes when I make changes to text in the rich text editor, it doesn't accept the change - it makes it smaller, doesn't accept the color change, etc. I have to go into the HTML code to fix, and even that sometimes doesn't help. Any suggestions?
You are doing exactly what I would do with such issues, my other suggestion would be to maybe create a new section and bring that new text in? Or even check how it would work in a different temple. These issues could be related to a section or actual temple so isolating the area helps to troubleshot further.
Can you add a video or GIF in an email?
Yes, you can add Gif in the email but again remember to have a still image for your fall back especially for mail clients like Outlook.
How did you view the width sizes of the 3 block section?
You just need to hover over the section until your cursor goes horizontal and then you can drag the width and see the column width.
Did you say that if personalization is missing the email won’t go out to that person?
That is correct, if say on your list First Name is missing for a record and you are using that field for personalisation, the email won’t get sent i.e it will be suppressed due to missing personalisation data. Our best practice advise is always have a fall back for personalisation in case such fields are empty.
What button did you press to get to personalization in bullet proof button?
Look out for red F icon. If you are still struggling to personalize your bullet proof button do let me know and I will create a short video.
For personalization, if the name is in all caps in the source file, can Act-On make the change to only upper letter capitalized, or do I need to make that change in the source file before uploading to Act-On?
This is a very good questions and I would love to say that we can control and correct Caps but this is not the case right now, so yes you will need to make changes in the source list before uploading into AO.
How to add logo?
Like any other images via the upload of images in the Media Library.
Is there an undo function?
Right now this is not something we have as a feature in Email Composer so I would highly recommend adding this to our Product Idea Board.
Can I add a button that allows me to attach a document from my browser?
I am not sure about this, potentially via Act On Anywhere plug in you could access Content. Let me explore this a bit more.
Do test emails count towards your accounts monthly active contacts?
Yes, all emails send from the platform counts towards active contacts including test emails and form confirmation emails too.
Where do you add the test email?
Go to Contacts/Other Lists/Account Lists/Contacts and add your test emails to Test List.
Is there any way to get Outlook to keep the rounded corners in a bullet proof button?
This rendering is something we cannot control, another Outlook mail client dependency.
Does Act-On have a social media content block to link the company’s social media, and not link to the user’s social media for them to share content? Currently, I am using linked image files as icons.
I think some on the call has mentioned ability to save Sections/Blocks in Email Composer so they can be re-used in other places. If this feature gets implemented, I think this should eliminated the need to rebuilding that section/block every time you need to use it somewhere else. Please feel free to add this to our Product Idea Board.
Can you use the Dynamic Content functionality while also using the Upload Email code option? Or is this only available by using the built-in email composer?
This option is only available if you are using build-in blocks, having said that have a look at the custom block in Email Composer, you can potentially build your email with native to AO block for dynamic content and the rest of sections could be created using custom block with your own code.
Can you fix a wrong link after you have sent the email to your contacts list?
Yes absolutely! Just go to the Report of that Email (could Test or Send one) go to Clicktrough Links tab, find your CTA and corresponding url, change it, remember to click save. Its all done and no need to resend!
Can you touch on testing dynamic content sends?
Apologies we could not run through the testing of Dynamic content, but I will look at creating a short video where I can record how to troubleshoot it easily.
How do you add social media icons/buttons? Not to share post/email but re direct to our own social media pages. For ex. I need Fb, Instagram, Youtube, twitter. Thanks!
You will need to create a section say with a responsive table, add the images and link them to the corresponding channels.
Can you touch on setting up and sending from an account's sales rep? So for example personalizing one email, but allowing it to appear it was sent from that contact's sales rep.
I am sorry we did not cover Personalised From in this Email 101 session but it’s a slightly more advanced feature. You can request from our support to enable Personalized From Addresses and follow this guide to set it up in your account.
How can I get tables within emails to function with the mobile version? Currently, if I put tables within an email, the email stops being responsive.
This is another very good question, I would recommend checking how your table was design, is it using % or actual px values, changing to % would help with making table to be more mobile responsive.
What are VCard personalization variable fields? And how do they differ from other Standard Field Names, Custom Fields, etc.?
vCard fields are stored/captured in person’s cookie when conversion happens (submission of form or click on email). The vCard available fields are vCard.email, vCard.firstname and vCard.lastname only.
