Subscription Management

Ciara Simiele
Hello,

I was looking at starting a subscription management program, and was wondering how this worked when you have existing contacts within Act-on who have obviously not opted-in to specific content categories (ex: newsletter, promotional updates, etc) since I would just now be creating that option.

Will I encounter an issue when I go to send an email tied to a specific category, newsletter for example, to an existing list segment as, per the training guide, Act-on suppresses against any contacts who have not opted-in to that specific 'newsletter' category?

Any tips on what I may need to do up-front to successfully set up the subscription management program would be appreciated!

Thank you,
-Ciara

Hi @Ciara Simiele. I had this same question a few months back.

My success manager told me that you can conduct an email campaign to your current subscribers introducing them to your new categories and have them choose their preferences by using the opt-out link as the call-to-action button in your email. This will direct them to the subscription management page wherein they can choose the categories they would like to be subscribed to.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi @Ciara Simiele

@Sarah Daily is correct! The Act-On Subscription Management feature only suppresses people who have specifically opted OUT of a category (has a 'false' value in the subscription management list for that category).

Anyone that has opted in, or who has not opted in or out of a category will still receive those messages.

So, when you first setup your subscription management feature, you will be able to send an opt-in email campaign out, and not worry about missing anyone by them being suppressed form that category.

I hope that helps clarify things.

Have a great day and Happy Marketing!
