Cross Referencing Buyers with Master List

Is there a way to upload a list of buyers, and cross reference them with the master list in Act-On. Currently, we are unable to sync with a CRM which makes it difficult to determine which actions led to a purchase. I would like to be able to work around this and determine if there are any trends leading to actionable items, and optimize based on on results.

  • Hi Nicole,

I'm a bit new to Act-On, but I think I figured out a solution to your question.

Import your list of buyers into a new list (Buyer List) - you can keep updating this list with new buyers.
Create a column in your Master List to identify the buyers ... for example 'Buyer', and then update this column using a List Maintenance Program.
Create a List Maintenance Program for the Buyer List with the following settings:
In Program Contacts: You want to make sure the program is working on the Buyer List, so it should say 'This program applies to contacts in Buyer List'
Program Steps: Create a new step by clicking on 'Add Step' and select 'Change Field Value'
Give the step a name (something like 'Identify Buyers')
In the top section, select 'find the corresponding record'
In the bottom section, for '...in list', choose your Master List
For the field to modify, select the new 'Buyer' field that you added
Then set the value of the field to something you can use for segmentation, maybe set it to 'BUYER', or TRUE
    Save it and run it.

  • The easiest way to do this is with Extension Lists. You set the key field and it will automatically match large sunsets of data based on the key field.

    Example being “email”

Load your master list, then Extend it with your buyers list and product info, Act-On now treats this as one list.

This gets very powerful if you have Customer or Account ID numbers!
