We'll be at SiriusDecisions Summit, will you be there too?

Thank you, Paul! I was pretty sure there wouldn't be more we could do about this, but thought it didn't hurt to ask.

Subject: Website Prospector - IP addresses giving false locations

A lot of organizations will acquire an IP address range and it is likely tied to a HQ address or a Regional HQ address. Even if you are working in another company location, it may be using an IP Address that is part of the corporate domain range. In those cases, no one is going to be able to determine the exact location.

It is no different than when you are working from home or using your mobile device. The address that is going to be supplied will be of your Internet Service Provider or Mobile Network provider.

If there is a cookie that has been dropped, if they make themselves known later, it will tie back to the individual. For now you just have to realise it isn't (and can't be) 100% accurate.

Subject: Website Prospector - IP addresses giving false locations

Hello! One of my sales reps noticed that I was listed on his website prospector report as being in Dallas, TX, when I'm working out of our HQ in Rockford, IL.

I told him all I knew about how Act-On uses reverse IP address lookup to try to determine a website visitor's location, but that it isn't always accurate (based on this article: IP Address Location Issues).

We send the prospector report to all reps and they're supposed to be looking for people in their regions, but if the report is showing someone in, say, New York, and that region's rep follows up on that and it turns out the person is actually located in California, that rep's time is of course wasted since they can't follow up outside their region.

Is there any way around this, besides having the rep click just Google the person or company name to see if that's actually where they are? Curious if anyone else has dealt with this.

Thanks!
