What's Changing
Act-On Contacts settings give you various ways to control what data changes can be pushed to your CRM. We've made some enhancements in Forms to allow you to override the Act-On Contacts list push policy.
In Settings > Data Management > Contact Mapping, the list push policy controls what data Act-On can send to the CRM. Turning off Allow Push blocks updates to existing contacts for that field whether it is currently populated or blank.
When Form submissions come in for a new contact, all fields on the Form can be pushed to the CRM (the push policy does not limit this, as it is not updating an existing contact). But what if an existing contact submits a Form with data in a field that was previously blank?
Two settings on the Form can control this. Go to Content > Forms > edit Form > Properties.
1. Contact Record Updates:
This setting controls how existing contacts are updated in Act-On. Forms default to Update only blank fields so existing data is not overwritten, but you can change this to Update all fields.
2. CRM Settings: Overwrite existing sign up data / Use sign up list's push settings to select fields
When both are checked, updated fields are sent to the CRM, but are limited by the push policy set in Data Management (above). Any fields that do not allow push are updated in the CRM.
If you uncheck Use sign up list's push settings to select fields, the Data Management push policy does not apply. This enables you to push data to the CRM on an existing contact according to the Form's Contact Record Update setting (update all / update blank).
When
The "Use sign up list's push policy" option was added to the CRM settings for Act-On Contacts Forms on September 19, 2024.
Customer Impact
This applies only to accounts with Act-On Contacts active and to Forms set to submit to Act-On Contacts. Existing Forms will not be changed but you can edit the CRM settings to change the update policies.
