How to Scrub Email Addresses

  • Updated

If a record gets imported with a malformed email address, you don't have to delete and re-add it. Act-On lets you find these bad records on a list and fix them right there, or "scrub" them, so the address is properly formatted.

Why this matters: A single malformed email address in a list can block sends, throw off your deliverability reporting, or simply mean that contact never receives anything. Scrubbing catches these before they become a bigger problem.

Scrub a Record

  1. Go to Lists > Marketing Lists, or select Other Lists > Form Submissions or Webinar Lists.
  2. Find the list you want & from the drop-down arrow on the right, click Maintenance > Scrub Email Addresses.
  3. Verify the First Name, Last Name, and Email information shown in the pop-up window.
  4. If any values need correction, click on the field and edit the value.
  5. Click the green checkmark icon in the right-hand column to save the change.
    • You can also click the ID badge icon in the right-hand column to edit all the other fields for that record within the list.
