  • Create up to 30 splits from a parent segment
  • Choose even percentages or manual counts
  • Automatically suppress non-deliverable contacts
  • Splits are Direct Select and can be edited individually
  • Use Regenerate to refresh splits after parent updates
Try it like this: Split your “Engaged Web Leads” segment into 3 even groups. Send each one a different email subject line, then compare open rates.

Open the Segment You Want to Split

  1. Go to Audience Center > All Contacts.
  2. Find the segment you want to split (e.g. Engaged Web Leads).
  3. Click ⋯ More and select Generate A/B Split.

Configure Your Split

Choose how many groups you want and how contacts should be divided.

  • Split Name: This label will be added to each new subsegment (e.g. “Split A,” “Split B”).
  • Number of Splits: You can create 2–30 groups.
  • Split Type: Choose % for even distribution or # for fixed counts.
  • Custom Adjustments: Edit individual group sizes if needed. Locked values won’t change when you edit others.

Suppress Undeliverable Contacts

You can remove contacts who can't receive emails - useful for clean testing and accurate results.

  • Select Suppress all non-deliverable contacts to exclude opt-outs, hard bounces, spam complaints, and missing emails.
  • Optionally, suppress specific segments (e.g. Internal Test Contacts).

Save and Use Your Splits

Click Submit to create the splits. Each group appears as a subsegment under the parent. These are:

  • Direct Select segments – they won’t auto-update like query segments
  • Fully editable – you can rename, reorder, or delete individual splits
  • Available for use in emails, Automated Programs, reports, and more
