You can update a contact's information directly from their Contact Report. It's the fastest way to correct a field, update a company detail, or adjust a value without exporting, editing, and re-importing a whole list.
Who does this: Marketing ops and anyone maintaining contact data
Time needed: About 30 seconds per record once you know where the Edit Fields button is
Why this matters: Small data errors (wrong company, misspelled name, stale job title) quietly degrade segmentation, personalisation, and scoring. Editing from the Contact Report lets you fix these as you find them, without building a whole maintenance program.
In plain English: Open the person, click Edit Fields on the Info tab, change what you need, save. That's it.
Quick Reference (Advanced Users) - Click to Expand
- Where edits happen: inside the Contact Report, on the Info tab, via Edit Fields.
- From All Contacts: open any segment, hover a record, select More > Edit Contact.
- From Marketing Lists: open the list first, then click the record.
- CRM-synced accounts: check which system is the source of truth before editing.
Try it like this: Open a contact from All Contacts, update the Company field on the Info tab, and save. The new value shows up in every list that contains the contact.
When should I edit a contact?
Any time a field needs correcting or updating. Common reasons:
- Fixing spelling or capitalisation of names
- Updating a company name or phone number
- Adjusting a field used for segmentation or scoring
- Filling in incomplete or outdated values
CRM users, read this: If your account syncs with a CRM, confirm which system is the source of truth before editing. Depending on your sync direction, CRM values may overwrite your Act-On edits on the next sync.
Edit a contact from All Contacts
- Go to Audience Center > All Contacts > All Segments and open any segment.
- Hover over the contact, click More , then Edit Contact .
- In the Contact Report, open the Info tab and click Edit Fields .
- Update the fields you need, click Save, and close the Contact Report.
Edit a contact from Marketing Lists
You can also edit a contact directly inside a Marketing List. Useful if you're still maintaining legacy lists or reviewing list-level data.
- Go to Lists > Marketing Lists.
- Hover over the list or segment, open the menu on the right, and select Open.
- Click the contact to open their Contact Report.
- On the Info tab, click Edit Fields .
- Make your changes, click Save, and close the Contact Report.
Best practices
- Prefer All Contacts for the most complete and consolidated view of each person.
- If you see more than one version of the same email address, use the Current List dropdown in the Contact Report to compare the two records.
- If your CRM is the authoritative system, make the edit there first so the value flows into Act-On on the next sync.
Next steps
- Searching for a Contact: find the right record before making edits.
- The Contact Report: review engagement, list membership, and scoring for the contact.
- Erase a Contact: permanently remove a contact's personal data if required.
