Adding Bulletproof Buttons to Emails - Legacy Composer

A bulletproof button lets you include an attractive, reliable Call to Action in your email using only HTML and CSS. These buttons render consistently across most email readers and can include personalization, custom styling, and rounded corners.

  • Insert a Rich Text block and click the Button icon.
  • Customize the button’s text, color, shape, and URL.

Instructions

Step 1: Create a New Bulletproof Button

  1. Open your email and go to the Design tab.
  2. Expand the Content panel, then drag a Rich Text Block into the message.
    • You can also edit an existing block by hovering and clicking the icon.
  3. Place your cursor where you want the bulletproof button to appear.
  4. Click the Button icon: Button icon
  5. Customize the button (text, colors, corners, link, and size).
  6. Click Insert to add the button to your Rich Text block.

Rounded corners display in most modern email readers, but some programs including Outlook for Windows, Yahoo Mail, and Lotus Notes do not support rounded corner HTML/CSS. These clients may display square corners instead. Always test your email thoroughly, and consider including a secondary CTA link.

Step 2: Center the Button

Bulletproof buttons are left-aligned by default. To change the alignment:

  1. Click the icon to edit the Rich Text block.
  2. Click the inserted bulletproof button.
  3. Under Align, choose your preferred alignment (Center, Right, or Left).

  1. Edit your Rich Text block and click the bulletproof button.
  2. Insert the personalization field and click Update.

If you need the personalization syntax for use inside the button or other HTML, follow these steps:

  1. Place your cursor in the Rich Text block.
  2. Click Insert Personalization Field.
  3. Select the field name you want.
  4. Click Insert.
  5. Copy the personalization tag and delete it from the visible content if you only need the syntax.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the corners of my button squared and not round?

Some email clients do not support rounded-corner HTML. Outlook for Windows, Yahoo Mail, and Lotus Notes may display square corners. Testing across devices and clients gives you the most accurate expectation for your design.

How will my bulletproof button render in Dark Mode?

Many modern email programs invert button and text colors in Dark Mode. Always test your button across multiple devices and clients to understand how it will appear in both light and dark environments.
