All Contacts Upgrade Assistant: Automated Programs

  • Updated

You can upgrade your Automated Programs to use Audience Center All Contacts segments as their source instead of Marketing Lists. The Upgrade Assistant guides you through replacing source lists, updating branching logic, and reviewing data-related steps so the program continues running smoothly.

Tip: Upgrade your existing program instead of copying or rebuilding it. This prevents contacts from reentering or repeating the workflow unintentionally.
Quick Reference (Advanced Users) - Click to Expand
  • Launch the Upgrade Assistant from the lightbulb icon or the Programs listing page.
  • Before upgrading, recreate your Marketing List segments in All Contacts.
  • Select one program at a time to upgrade.
  • Replace sources and Early Exit Conditions with All Contacts segments.
  • Fix step-level issues like “Copy to a List” or field updates.
  • Review, submit, and restart your program if needed.
Try it like this: Copy your Marketing List segments into All Contacts, open your nurture program, replace each source with its new All Contacts segment, fix any “Copy to List” steps, then review and restart the program.

Access the Upgrade Assistant

Open the Upgrade Assistant from the lightbulb icon at the top of the All Contacts screen.

Select Start upgrading programs.

You can also open the Upgrade Assistant from the Automated Programs listing page.

Choose Your Program

Start by reviewing the program you want to upgrade. Ensure you have created matching All Contacts segments that replace every Marketing List segment used as a source. You cannot mix Marketing List segments with All Contacts segments inside the same program.

To quickly replicate your segments, use the Copy Segments tool. It copies the criteria and makes it easier to choose replacement sources during the upgrade.

Select Select program and choose the Automated Program to upgrade. Programs are upgraded one at a time.

Choose Your Sources

The program upgrade assistant opens as a sidebar on the program settings page. You will see each Marketing List or segment currently used as a source.

Act-On may recommend an All Contacts segment as the replacement. Otherwise, use Change segment to select the correct one. You can also remove a source entirely if it is no longer needed.

When done, click Next.

Fix Step Issues

The assistant reviews each program step to identify items that require changes. For example:

  • A “Copy to a List” step becomes “Copy to a Segment,” requiring you to choose an All Contacts segment.
  • A branching step such as “If contact is in X list or segment” may need a new segment selection.
  • If a step updates fields, you may need to choose the correct All Contacts field if the system cannot detect a match.

Select Submit to complete the upgrade. If the program is running, it is paused until the upgrade finishes. Afterward, Act-On will notify you if new contacts are now eligible to enter the program based on the updated sources. You can choose to keep the program paused or start it again.

Upgrade Log and Revert Option

After upgrading, open the Upgrade Assistant to view the Upgrade log. It shows a complete history of program upgrades and allows you to restore any program to its previous configuration if needed.
