Defining your data schema is the first step when setting up your Audience Center All Contacts database for accounts without a connected CRM. Your schema determines which contact fields you track and use for personalization, segmentation, scoring, and reporting. The steps below help you plan and build a clean, useful data structure you can grow over time.

Instructions
Choose your field names
Before creating your schema, decide which fields you need to store. Include any data you plan to use for segmentation, personalization, lead scoring, or reporting. A clean schema helps you build focused segments and consistent messaging across your programs.
Common core fields include:
- Email Address (required)
- First Name and Last Name
- Company
- Job Title
- Phone Number
Additional fields often used for segmentation include Industry, Region, Language, Preferences, Interests, and Time Zone.
Not sure yet? You can always add new fields later, including during imports.
Add your fields to All Contacts
Create Standard and custom fields through the Data Management panel:
- Go to Settings > Data Management.
- On the left, review the available Act-On Standard Fields. Select any you want to include. Email Address is included automatically.
-
On the right, create custom fields by entering a field name and selecting a data type.
- Data types include Boolean, Date, Datetime, Text, Number, Score, and Email.
- If you are unsure which type to choose, Text is a flexible default. Use Date when you plan to segment on date ranges in the future.
- Save your changes.
Score Data Type
If you use Act-On lead scoring, consider including a score field in your schema. Score fields are optional but helpful if you plan to export scores or if you use multiple scoring models.
- You can attach a Score field to any scoring sheet you have created.
- If you use more than one scoring sheet, create one Score field per sheet.
When your schema is complete, go to Audience Center > All Contacts to view your database and begin your data import.
