Using Query Templates for Segmentation

  • Updated

Query Templates allow you to save your query logic so you can reuse it when creating new segments. This helps you build consistent audiences across campaigns without recreating the same set of rules each time.

Quick Reference (Advanced Users) - Click to Expand
  • Create your segment using the Query method.
  • Open Query Templates in the upper right.
  • Select Save to store your query as a template.
  • When creating a new segment, load your saved template from the sidebar.
  • Adjust values as needed before saving the new segment.
Try it like this: Save a template called “Re-engagement Audience” that finds contacts who responded 2 months ago but have not engaged recently. Apply this template whenever you launch a re-engagement campaign.

Define Your Queries

Before saving a template, start by building your query logic. Learn about defining query criteria and query methods.

Example

Imagine your campaign has been running for two months. You want to reach contacts who engaged early in the campaign but have not engaged recently.

Build a query that identifies contacts who opened an email, visited a Landing Page, or submitted a Form two months ago, but have not done any of those activities in the last month.

The CUSTOM logic “(1 or 2 or 3) and (4 and 5 and 6)” means:

  • The contact must have done one of the first three actions two months ago.

  • The contact must also match all three “no recent engagement” criteria for last month.

Save as a Query Template

  1. Once your query logic is complete, select Query Templates in the upper right. A sidebar opens on the right side of the screen.
  2. Enter a name for your Query Template and select Save.

Reuse Query Templates

When you want to create a new segment with similar criteria, you can load any saved Query Template.

  1. Start a new segment from the list or segment you are working with. Learn how to do this here.
  2. Name your new segment and choose Query as the segmentation method.
  3. Open Query Templates from the right side and select the template you want to use. Confirm when prompted.

The new segment loads the saved criteria, which you can adjust before saving.
