Creating an A/B Split Segment with Marketing Lists

  • Updated

A/B Split Segments let you divide a list into smaller groups so you can test message variations before sending to your full audience. Use split segments to experiment with subject lines, design changes, or different calls to action.

Quick Reference (Advanced Users) - Click to Expand
  • Start from the list you want to test.
  • Create Split Segments and define the number of contacts per group.
  • Send different message versions to each group.
  • Review performance and send the winning version to the remaining audience.
Try it like this: Split your list into two groups of equal size, test two subject lines, then send the better-performing version to the rest of your contacts.

Create Split Segments

You can create A/B Split Segments from any Marketing List.

  1. Open the list you want to test.
  2. Select the option to create a segment and choose the split option when it appears.
  3. Enter the number of records you want in each split group.

  1. Select Choose if you want to exclude contacts found in other lists or segments.
  2. Select Next.

Your split segments appear below the selected list. Use each group independently when sending test versions of your message.

What You Can Test

Split segments help you compare different versions of a message. For example:

  • Subject line
  • Header image or layout
  • Color choices or branding
  • Call-to-action style or placement
  • Message length

Use Your Results

After sending test versions to the split groups:

  • Review opens, clicks, or conversions
  • Identify the version that performed best
  • Send the winning version to your remaining contacts

This approach improves send performance and reduces the risk of sending an underperforming message to your full audience.
