While Act-On tracks many standard contact behaviors such as form submissions, email engagement, website visits, and webinar attendance, you may have additional data that would improve how you segment and target your audience.
Act-On’s Custom Data integration lets you add related data to supplement your contact records. This can include behavioral data such as purchases, event registrations, interactions, or service claims, as well as extended profile information like account attributes, distributor details, or custom ownership data.
Custom Data can be uploaded manually using a CSV file or maintained through the Custom Data API. Once available, this data can be used alongside your contact data for segmentation without modifying the All Contacts database.
Custom Data is available to customers who use Audience Center to manage contact data in Act-On. It replaces the previous Custom Touch Points and Extension Lists features.
What’s Changing
Act-On has historically supported Custom Data integrations through the Custom Data APIs , which remain the recommended approach for ongoing integrations with frequent updates.
For use cases where data is uploaded periodically, such as event attendance, webinar participation, or content downloads, Act-On now supports uploading Custom Data using a CSV file.
When uploading data, you can choose to create a new dataset or add records to an existing dataset. We recommend keeping data of the same type (for example, all event attendance records) within a single dataset to support more flexible and consistent segmentation.
After upload, the data is reviewed and processed by Act-On and made available on the Custom Data page within 2 business days. Once processed, it can be used for segmentation (requires Segmentation 2.0).
Uploading Custom Data does not add contacts to the All Contacts database. Any new contacts must be imported separately.
Availability
The Custom Data CSV upload feature is available starting December 11, 2026. Contact Act-On Support to request activation of this feature.
Customer Impact
Audience Center users can request access to this feature to supplement their contact data and enable more precise segmentation without changing existing contact records.
