What's Changing
Your All Contacts database is set up in Settings > Data Management, where you can choose from Act-On Standard Fields or Custom Fields to add to your data schema (Learn more). We've added a new set of fields to the Standard Field list. These fields include:
- Industry
- Segment
- Subsegment
- Business Unit
- Org Type
- User Type
- Region
- Role
- Lead Source
- Status
- Size
- Product
- Language
When
The new standard fields are available in Data Management now (April 18, 2025). They will be used in Advanced Analytics and other areas of Act-On within the next few months.
Customer Impact
This expanded set of standard fields will make it possible in the future to provide more demographic data in Advanced Analytics, AI models, & other areas of Act-On. They are specifically meant to be flexible in meaning so that you can use them for data that is important to you. While in the past, many users have added these types of fields via Custom Fields, having them as standard fields makes it possible to take advantage of planned future enhancements.
Moving Data From a Custom Field to a Standard Field:
CRM Integrated
If all of your contact data is synced to your CRM, the easiest way to move to a standard field is as follows:
- Delete the custom field from your schema.
- Save your changes.
- Re-add the field in the upper "Standard Fields" area and map it to your CRM field.
- On your next sync, the data will be added to that field.
If you have contacts with data in that field that are not synced with the CRM, follow the instructions below:
- Rename the custom field. For example, rename "Industry" as "Industry_Old".
- Remove the CRM mapping from the lower "Custom Fields" area.
- Save your changes.
- Add the field to the upper "Standard Fields" area and map it to your CRM field.
- Using a List Maintenance program, set the new standard field value to the old field value.
- Delete the old custom field.
If these fields are used on forms or segments, be sure to update them to the new field.
No CRM Integrated
If you do not have an integrated CRM, follow these steps:
- In Data Management, rename your custom field. For example, rename "Industry" as "Industry_Old".
- Save your changes.
- Add the field to the upper "Standard Fields" area & save.
- Using a List Maintenance program, set the new standard field value to the old field value.
- Delete the old custom field.
You don't have to use these new standard fields, but adding them to your schema will let you take advantage of further demographic breakdowns in future reporting and analysis tools.
