Manage From Addresses and Email Senders

  • Updated

From addresses are the sender names your recipients see. In Act-On, you can send from your own email, from a colleague's, or from a marketing or sales alias like hello@company.com. This page covers adding, verifying, editing, and deleting those addresses.

Who does this: Marketing admins in Act-On. No IT or DNS work is needed here, assuming the domain has already been set up via Email From Setup
Time needed: 2 to 5 minutes per sender, plus whoever owns the inbox clicking a verification link
Why this matters: The From name is the first thing recipients see before they decide whether to open your email. Getting the right mix - a personal sender for 1:1 follow-ups, a brand alias for newsletters - lifts open rates and keeps replies going to the right inbox.

  • Edit / delete: hover the sender, click the pencil or trash icon.

Essentials to get started

  • Your From addresses must be valid mailboxes. You'll need access to the inbox to click a verification link.
  • Before adding senders, make sure you've set up:
Common pitfall: Adding a From address on a domain you haven't authenticated. Every domain you send from must have SPF and DKIM in place, or your messages may not be delivered. See Email From Setup.

Add From addresses

  1. Go to Settings > Other Settings > From Addresses in your Act-On account.
  2. Click + Add sender.
  3. Enter the Name and Email Address for the new From address. Optional fields: Title, Phone Number, Mobile Number, Fax Number.
  4. Click Add. A verification email is sent to the address you provided.
  5. Open the inbox for that address and click the verification link. Verified then appears in the Status column.
    • To resend the verification email, hover over the sender and click the envelope icon.

Update From addresses

In Settings > Other Settings > From Addresses, admin users can set a default sender and edit or delete existing addresses.

Set a default sender

  1. Hover over the sender you want to set as default and, on the right, click the user-plus icon.
    • The sender's Status must be Verified.
  2. A confirmation appears and Default shows up in the Status column.

To remove a sender as default, hover over the sender and click the user-minus icon.

Edit a From address

  1. Hover over the sender and click the pencil icon.
  2. Update fields as needed in the Edit From Address dialog. Note: you can't change the Email Address itself.
  3. Click Save.

Delete a From address

  1. Hover over the sender and click the trash icon.
  2. In the confirmation pop-up, click Yes, delete.

Apply a From address to your email

Once added and verified, a From address becomes selectable as the Sender when editing a message.

  • In the Email Composer, open the email, go to the Settings tab, and pick the Sender from the dropdown.
  • For legacy emails, open the email, go to the Address tab, and pick the Sender from the dropdown.
