Setting Up Website Prospector Alerts

  • Updated

Automatically send an email alert to any Act-On user when a specific prospect navigates to your site. This key component of the Website Prospector report is useful for sales reps to see when known prospects from their assigned territory are on your site. You can even add a condition for a specific page (eg, your pricing page).

Admin and Marketing Users

  1. Go to Inbound > Website Prospector Alerts.
  2. Click Add Alert.
  3. In the Alert field, enter the email address for the email alert.
    • Only one address is allowed per alert. To alert multiple users, set up the alert for each user individually.
  4. From the drop-down list, select the field you want to use for the alert, for example, Company or Country.
  5. Either enter a condition in the box (for example, "Act-On" for the Company field) or click the blue down-arrow to select the conditions you want (for example, "Canada" & "United States" for the Country field).
  6. Click Add to enter more conditions.
  7. Click Add Alert to create more alerts.
  8. When you have finished, click Save.

Sales Users

  1. Go to Settings > Website Prospector Alerts.
  2. Click Add Alert.
  3. In the Alert field, enter the appropriate email address to which Act-On will deliver the email alert.
  4. Click the blue down-arrow to identify the appropriate condition for the alert, and enter the value in the next field.
  5. Click Add to enter more conditions.
  6. Click Add Alert to create more alerts.
  7. When you have finished, click Save.

Blocked Alerts

If an alert is blocked, it may be due to one of these reasons:

  • The alert is based on a user for the account. Example – You create an alert based on “Person” and set the email to the same email you log in with.
  • The alert is based on a user who has any of the Act-On domains. Act-on.com, act-on.net and actonsoftware.com
  • The visiting IP is on the list of IPs to ignore.
  • The organization's name is on the list of ISPs.
  • The organization name matches your account.

Duplicate Alerts

If you are receiving multiple Daily Digest messages for the Website Prospector Feature, you can address this by resetting the report recipients.

  1. Go to Inbound > Website Prospector > More (top right) > Digest Emails.
  2. Turn off each email recipient:
    • Click on each user/recipient.
    • Uncheck the option for Enable Website Prospector Daily Digest Email.
    • Click Submit.
  3. Wait 5 minutes.
  4. Re-enable each recipient (using the reverse of the steps above).

This allows Act-On to resync the list of recipients, which should resolve the issue.
